Made for hot springs, this town not only has the natural resources to heal the body and mind but has also bred strong and unique cultural customs over the past hundred years. In this issue of "Reproduction of Hot Spring Town", Beitou's former artistic splendor is reproduced. You can follow the yu-kin melody of Ming-Chang Chen, a well-known Beitou musician, and create an artistic chapter of Beitou with unrestrained dance. Or even walk in the "Taiwan Hollywood" and watch Beitou stories through old films with Chih-Heng Su, a literary and historical worker. Additionally, see the important foundation of Taiwanese films where thousands of film and television work that record Taiwan’s authentic Taiwan flavor have been produced. Furthermore, listen to Kan Hong, deputy curator of the Beitou Cultural Relic Museum, who describes the beauty of Beitou kiln burning. In the hilly tableland extending from the Guandu Plain, Beitou was formed through erosion and the "Beitou kiln" was created by the introduction of technology along with the development of hot springs by the Japanese. With bright colors and delicate techniques, extreme china art was burned here. When kiln burning crossed over into public life, Beitou kilns were transformed into tiles with rich stories. Through the overarching perspective of a literary historian, Nuo-Xi Kang, you can witness how these lines were inset on gorgeous hotels and religious temples. In this, and the prosperity of Beitou was praised and life on Beitou was connected to art, music and singing.

 

This art can also grow in the streets. This issue, across the distance between Taiwan and Japan, also invites Chia-Hui Lin of LONGNICE & HOT SPRINGS and Yusuke Hiramatsu of KOSUGI HOT SPRINGS, both third-generation public bathing place managers, to talk about the inheritance and innovation of life and bathing culture. Moreover, the designer Pei-Zhe Zheng will lead a visit through the Wallless Museum throughout Beitou, and through the feelings explored by Wei-Zhong Zhang, a writer residing in Japan, you can feel the warmest human values.

The history of Beitou is reproduced through more than just its hot springs; it adds artistic colors, hums a local melody, and looks up to see the scenery on the street. This is the art that belongs to Beitou and with hundreds of gestures, it waits for people to again walk into the Hot Spring Town’s irreplaceable gentle embrace.
